Role and Structure of the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation

In February 2012, the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation began operations, and has taken on the role of the Director of Liquor Licensing, Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation and the licensing and compliance functions of Responsible Alcohol Victoria.

 

The objectives of the Commission (as set out in section 10.1.3 of the Gambling Regulation Act 2003) are:

  1. to ensure that gaming on gaming machines is conducted honestly
  2. to ensure that the management of gaming machines and gaming equipment is free from criminal influence and exploitation
  3. to ensure that other forms of gambling permitted under this or any other Act are conducted honestly and that their management is free from criminal influence and exploitation
  4. to act as a source of advice to the Minister on gambling issues and to ensure that the Government's policy on gambling is implemented
  5. to foster responsible gambling in order to -
    1. minimise harm caused by problem gambling and
    2. accommodate those who gamble without harming themselves or others; and
  6. any objectives set out in the Casino Control Act 1991 or any other Act
